Memorial Day Table For Two

As many of you know Hubbs & I have our dinners and weekend breakfast at the small round table in the kitchen. I design the table to reflect the theme I am currently doing.  Memorial Day, which honors our servicemen and women , and dogs that gave up their lives for the freedoms we enjoy. I matched the table to my door decor bringing in a white table cloth, with a blue runner. Yellow glittered chargers , white dinner , blue salad and red & white polka dotted desert plates.  Silver flatware, crystal goblets and red wine glasses, and yellow and white napkins with a sliver napkin ring . The centrepiece is a red planter, with blue hydrangeas, a red orchid, white irises, red primroses and white gerber daisies.

                                                The centerpiece:

Memorial Day Door Decor

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. Monia Micheal , conceived the idea to wear poppies as she was the first to do so, to honor those who lost their life's. She started the " buddy Poppy Program" that raises money to help the disabled veterans.
She also wrote this poem :
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

I decorated my door in the time honored tradition of honoring our fallen . I used a base of red mesh with a smaller white mesh ribbon wound throughout the red. The sign at the top of the door is in the shape of  a tomb, with the words "To Honor". Then I took the branches , US Marines, Army, Air Force, Navy & Coast Guard signs and added them. I also made a sign to honor the "War Dogs" who also served this country honorably and lost their life's. Then added folded flags that represent the flags on the coffins of our fallen. Ribbons in yellow that have the words : Wife, Son, Husband, Daughter. Also crosses with flags on them to represent the crosses at the cemeteries . Then instead of a wreath I used combat boots, inserted  red, white, blue flowers and poppies , and a yellow bow. Then on the side of patio I used a footlocker , draped with camouflage netting ( that was used in draping a tank to hide it  ), and the United States Flag, and another flower bouquet and yellow bow. I hope it honors all my friends and loved ones that have lost their lives, in my attempt to do so.
